Superkilen project - The black square

The black square is the second part of the Superkilen project in Norrebrogade,Denmark. This area is where the most used, where locals socialize and meet.

It is fascinating bringing into context the history of the site and the intervention of introducing a public square; the neighbourhood was known for its crime scene, cut off from the rest of the city by two major highways. This second part of the project is characterized by white stripes against the black of the asphalt, creating beautiful continous line, rarely found in any other landscape designs. The stripes, for some reason, almost gives it a ''playgroud'' look, suggesting that it is most likely appreciated by both adults and kids. There are in fact areas where children can play, such as a huge octopus, different levels in the paving where young adults often skate, tables to play chess, more benches and barbeque facilities.

The strong concept of diversity and inclusion is portrayed by elements such as a maroccan style fountain or the english style of the bins, a simple, but effective and playful idea.
