EXPLORING THE SITE- ALNEY ISLAND

After a long year of covid, and the lost opportunity to explore the site we work with, we finally had the chance to visit Alney Island, the site for the Design module as well as Sustainable technology 2. It is definitely far larger than any site worked with before, and particular in terms of what approach we have to use. Despite its very rural character, it is incredibly connected and close to West Gloucester, both historically speaking and today, for a quiet escape from the bustling city. Despite this however, it is mainly now referred as a flood plain of Gloucester, which is, in my opinion, a wasted opportunity.

But that is exactly what we have to explore, the possibility of turning this vast but basically abandoned land, into an extention of Gloucester, so that citizen can rediscover the tranquil but close greenscape through changing it slightly so it can also benefit the environment and biodiversity.
