Sensory garden design inspiration
The simple, but effective design of a sensory garden gives me an idea on my next steps toward designing an urban sensory place. A sensory garden is uniquely designed to stimulate the five senses, aiming to invite visitors to explore their senses through the scent of flowers, textures of different plant species, sound of water, taste of edible plants and so on.
Sensory gardens are often described as a form of therapy, where people from different ages and backgrounds can reconnect to nature. I'd like to bring this idea and concept to a bigger scale, as I believe it interconnects with the idea of creating an centre that holds a strong sense of community and tolerance.
The senses are going to be represented by elements such as foodscapes, foodhall for taste, the views to the cathedral and river for sight, the sound by water and music, smell and scents of vegetation as well as foods and cafe for smell and interactive installation such as climbing wall and seating areas for touch. Touch can also refer to interaction with water and vegetation, combined with the other senses.
